T-Ball, Beach Bums and a Jail Break!

Hello again! We've had a very busy couple weeks and I'm behind on my blogging. We'll start off with one of my favorite experiences thus far as a Mom. It involved this handsome T-ball player:
If you know Brody or have been following my blog for a while you know Brody is an observer. He watches everything that goes on before jumping into a situation. He's not an aggressive guy and takes in everything he sees. T-ball has been no different. The first 5 games Brody loved hitting, but mainly just stood in place in the outfield and watched all the 10 other members of his team chase down the ball and fight for it. Last game Jared went out into the outfield and gave Brody a little pep talk on how he'll probably have more fun if he tries chasing the ball. When Jared came back he said, "Well, I don't know if he got anything out of that talk, but I got three kisses!" haha! Brody was so happy to have his Dad out there. Anyway, for our game on Wednesday our team was down 5 members. Brody always does better in smaller groups, so this was absolutely Brody's best game. He was trying a lot harder to move from his position and go after the ball. In the second inning, a ball was hit almost right to Brody. He kind of looked around, noticed he was the only one around, picked up the ball and threw it to 2nd base exactly like he was supposed to do. He then turned to me with both thumbs up with his arms way up in the air jumping up and down. He was SO proud of himself. It is a scene I hope to never forget as it was the cutest thing I've seen in T-ball. One of the other parents commented, "That's exactly what T-ball is all about!" I get a little choked up every time I think about it. Such a simple little progression, but for Brody it was huge. Jared had to work, so Brody left him a message after the came that sounded exactly like this, "Dad, guess what?! I finally caught a ball and it was so cool! It was awesome! I can't wait to tell you about it! Love you, bye!" I sure love my sweet little boy.

These are a few members of Brody's team. He's right in the middle.  They range in age from 4-7 and the boy to the far left is only 5 years old! I will remind you that Brody is in the 95th% for height. That little boy is one amazing T-ball player. He hits a home run every time! My sister in-law told me to take of picture of Brody with Jonathan so that when he's in the big leagues, Brody can say he played T-ball with him. They sure are cute to see!
Yesterday we took advantage of the warm weather and headed to the beach with some friends after a super fun birthday party in the morning. It was a very busy day! We met up with two of Jared's buddies from work. They are both BYU graduates also and the only other PTA's with families. One of them in particular I'm really grateful for as he's Jared's sounding board and support system at work. Anyway, we all had a great time! Parker loved playing in the sand and Brody spent the whole time playing soccer with a beach ball with his Mom or learning how to throw a frisbee. I think we need to try soccer out next season because Brody was loving it. It's scary how much he's like his Dad sometimes.

This is a picture of the Long Island Sound (coast of CT). I had forgotten how much colder the water is in the East and how rocky the shoreline is. The bright side is when you have little boys that love to throw rocks, it's quite entertaining! There were lots of little islands and it really was just a beautiful day! Here's a picture of all the boys. Jared is far right and my little two are on the left.

After we got home last night, the boys were so tired. We had really worn them out. We keep a "magic gate" up at Parker's door so he can't get out at night and fall down the stairs (since his room is right at the top and he wanders at night). Well, I guess I must've been tired also because I only secured the top part of the gate. He figured this out rather quickly and snuck through the bottom. Jared and I were downstairs doing things so we didn't know any of this was going on. When we went up to go to bed an hour later we found Parker sleeping at the top of the stairs. He's made a jail break! What would you get if you escaped and wanted to sleep on the floor? Parker ran in our room and got Jared's belt and found Brody's bouncy ball. I have no idea why it was those two objects, but we thought it was pretty funny!

Lastly, just a couple camera phone pictures from tonight. Parker man:
A big Captain America: (Brody)
A Little Captain  America: (Parker man)
I hope you are all enjoying your Spring time! A HUGE shout out to my Kbabe as her hubby graduated from dental school today and they are moving from Pittsburgh back to Sacramento tomorrow! CONGRATS to them! Love you guys and hope to see you in CA some time soon! I'm so proud of both of you! :)

T-ball, Aunt Ash, and NYC Numero Dos

Brody started T-ball this past week! I need to get some better pictures, but for a preview here's a couple:
Batting (lefty, even though he throws righty)...
 Running to home plate...
It has been so much fun to watch and he thinks T-ball is so fun. He asks me daily to go to the park so he can practice "baseball". It's cute to see him having so much fun. His team is so funny to watch as most of them are brand new to T-ball. It'll be fun to see them progress over the next 2 months. Hooray for T-ball! Hopefully I'll get some better pictures soon!

In other news....Aunt Ash is here!! I'm so excited to have my sister here to visit. The boys have missed living next to our families so much and were so excited when they heard Ash was coming to visit! We are having so much fun. We were talking about heartbeats one night and this happened. Smerdo bear listening to Ashabash, Parker listening to Smerdo bear, and Brody listening to Parker. haha!
Dad needed to be tackled to listen to his heartbeat...
Yesterday we headed back to NYC because Ash hasn't been there since our older sister Shannon moved away (she used to live in Manhattan). The boys loved the train ride again, we had lots of fun sight seeing, and Ash and I are pretty sore today as we walked about 7 miles! The train is way more fun when you get a windwo seat with Ash!
Promptly after getting off the train, Parker fell asleep. He then slept for 3 HOURS!! Apparently all I need to do to get him to sleep longer is have constant blaring taxi horns in his ears. He kills me and was VERY comfy in his stroller.
This trip I found my new favorite place in the city--Central Park! I don't think I've ever been there before and I don't know what I was expecting, but it was so much better than I thought it was. I see how this place totally makes living the "the city" do-able. It's a place I could get lost in for days. I love that! I think you could spend several hours just people watching!

 Look who found a playground!
The boys kept calling the clydesdales "silly horses" because of their outfits. This one isn't really dressed up, but most of them had tall feathers on their heads and colorful clothes. Someday maybe I'll take a ride in one of those. My legs would thank me.
This next picture is probably my new favorite of Parker man. This is in front of the ice rink in central park that's in the movie "Serendipity". I'm hoping to come back in the winter and actually go skating there! Anyway, I told Parker to go out in front of it and take a picture. He went out there, turned around, and did this all on his own (literally with no prompting!) So funny!!
Now, let's play a little game of "I SPY". I spy Angel Moroni. Can you find him?
 A little closer...
We found the temple!! When my sister Shannon lived here this was her chapel building, so I had been here before but before it was a temple. It was super cool! We went in and talked to the missionaries there for a while (since we are now in the NYC Temple district and I had a couple questions for them) and they showed us around a little. The 3rd floor is still a chapel, cultural hall, rooms, etc. It really is cool because you go up an elevator and when you get off it looks EXACTLY like every other church building. Same furniture, walls, etc. I'm really looking forward to coming down to do a session sometime!
Part of our purpose in going today was to check out the two biggest toy stores in NYC. FAO Schwarz and Toys R Us. First up, Toys R Us in Times Square. I saw 4 very big eyes the whole time we were in there. Taking everything in. That dinosaur back there was a little scary for the little one. Every time we'd go by he'd cover both of his eyes. haha!
It even has a ferris wheel inside! We decided to skip it for today, but the boys got to pick out a couple cars and they were plenty happy with that (plus I had a leftover gift card from Christmas that was perfect for the occasion!) :)
Heading back to FAO Schwarz, I just kept looking up and marveling at the height of these buildings. It's impossible not to be amazed. I loved the reflection of the clouds in this one (the General Motors building)
 FAO Schwarz
The "BIG" piano! (From the movie "Big") The boys thought this was SO much fun. The pictures speak for themselves...
Did Parker fall down? No, no he's learned to slide!

Hey, finally a non-cheeseball picture of Parker and Ash with a lego Batman.
I have a little bucket list of things I want to do in NYC while we live here. Today was Central Park, the toy stores, walking down 5th avenue, and just enjoying people watching. The boys are such good sports and I'm really grateful to have my buddies and my sister to spend the day with!
One more time because it's just so funny....
Next stop: Washington D.C. tomorrow to see our cousins!! Then we'll take a break from traveling for most of the summer. Have I mentioned that I'm trying to enjoy my one year on the East Coast as much as possible?! :) Have a great weekend!
