Pre-Christmas Fun in Orange County

These past few weeks we have been out in California for the holidays. We spent a week down in Orange County at my Aunt and Uncle's house before going to Bakersfield for Christmas. We had so much fun, and it reminded me of why I really do miss living there sometimes. Brody had lots of fun with Mickey, Grandma Burden, and Jon. One of his favorite things was their various train sets around the house...
His hair is looking more and more like his Dads :)
Brody, Grandma Burden, and I at the Los Angeles Temple
Brody liked to try and kiss Mickey's singers :) (or eat the light, I'm not quite sure which)
I think he really enjoyed having someone his own size. He'd wave to them every time he walked by
Now, I'm not typically a car person, but my uncle got a really cool car that I didn't know even existed in real life (I tend to think of them just as little figures that little boys play with). It's a Ford GT and it was so much fun to ride in. I can honestly say I have never received that much attention while driving around. I thought it was funny how short it was...I'm not very tall and I had to almost sit on the ground to get in it.
Brody took driving it very seriously. Uncle Jon was very kind to let Brody sit in it and play with the steering wheel and gear shifter.
Brody has been a real car guy lately. He loves his little cars and apparently likes real ones to!
Sorry, I know enough with the car pictures, but it's just so cool! This is Uncle Jon making his way out of the driveway....
Before we went to California we went to our Ward's Breakfast with Santa. Brody sat on Santa's lap and got a candy cane. He wasn't a huge fan, just because he really doesn't like sitting when we've let him run around for a while. We had lots of fun, though, and it was a great way to kick off the holidays for us. This is Brody with Santa...
One last picture for this post. I find Brody in his room a lot, on top of the arm of the glider we have in his room, peering out the window with his nose pressed to it. He loves being outside and he loves looking outside when he can't go out. We had just had a snow storm, so Brody was very curious why all the cars and road were white. He stayed like this for quite some time and had a very cold little nose when he was done!

Two Cute Videos

Okay, so I know you may have an overload of my postings lately, but I guess that's what happens when you're too busy for a few weeks to do any of this. Also, this upcoming week is going to be insane as I prepare to leave next Monday for Christmas. So, here are a couple of videos of my cute little boy. The first one is of Brody's new talent. (just excuse his bedhead) This is what happens when Aunt Shannon comes to visit......

Now I need to preface this second one a little. Brody loves toes. Like, really loves toes. He thinks they are the funniest things in the world. When he was little he used to try and eat any toes he saw around the house (even my poor guests sometimes!) Thankfully I think we're past the eating toes stage. However, he still thinks being tickled by toes is the funniest thing in the world. Well, most kids you can have fly on your feet and they enjoy the sensation of being up in the air above Mommy and the floor. However, Brody can't get over the fact that he's on your toes. He laughs so hard that he wiggles all over the place and you can't keep him up on your feet. My sister caught this one morning (in this one you need to excuse my pajamas....it was the morning of a very snowy day, so we were stuck inside for a while!). I could watch his initial guffaw over and over again I think it's so funny!

Shannon and Brendan Visit Denver!

This past week my sister Shannon and Brendan came to visit us in Denver. We actually drove home together from Texas with my Dad. We had seen Twilight in the theatre, but Shannon had never read the books, so my poor Dad was subjected to 300 pages of the first book of Twilight. I think he secretly liked it, though, so I think he may be seeing in the movie in the near future (haha!!). It made the trip go by faster, though, and we had lots of fun. One of the days we went up to Pike's Peak. The summit is 14,000 feet, but the weather was such that we couldn't quite drive all the way to the top. We made it 13 out of the 19 miles up to the top. It was very pretty because on the ground it was overcast and very ugly, but up on top it was a sunny, blue sky. This first picture is one I took of Brody on the day it snowed, and it's my favorite, so I'll start the post off with it :) This is a picture on the way up to Pike's Peak. I just thought the trees looked so pretty all covered in snow. Notice where the cloud cover is....
Now notice the cloud cover. It's amazing what a few thousand feet will do :)

Just another view from going up the Mountain. They said on a clear day you can see Denver 75 miles away as well as mountains in New Mexico 100 miles away. I think I'll go back in the summer when it's not quite so cold!
A view of the valley down below
This is me at the highest point up we could go. We were probably one of 3 cars on the whole mountain so there was no one to take a picture of us together. So, it's just me!
And now it's just Shan Shan
Shannon wanted me to try this weird Moroccan Restaurant. I don't eat weird food EVER so I was very excited when we got there and they had closed the kitchen (apparently they run on reservations only). It was kind of fun, though, because Shannon was able to get a lot of cool pictures from inside the restuarant. She's always wanted to go to Africa, so this sort of thing really suites her. I don't think I'll be returning to try this restaurant as I found out afterwards you sit on the floor and use your hands to eat everything, including sauces. Not really my cup of tea. :) This is one of both of us....
Okay, now on to our snowy day in Denver. It was so pretty and I loved it, except it kind of got in our way of plans we had to drive to Vail. Shan's going to have to come back I guess :) We did, however, make our way to the mall in the snow and out to eat with a friend of ours. When we were driving to the airport to get Jared, this is what my temperature gauge read in my car.....
I've never even seen it in the single digits and I'm not sure if it even goes under 1 degree. I guess as the winter progresses if it gets colder I'll find out :) This is degrees also, not wind chill!! It was VERY cold, but I loved it!
This is little Brendan trying to figure out what this white, wet, cold stuff is!
I really enjoy the mall here in Denver, so I took Shannon and Brendan to one of the only warm, indoor places we could spend a couple hours on a snowy day. This is while we were eating lunch. The boys were being very cute, so we took a few pictures of them. In this one Brody is clapping for something, though I'm not sure exactly what.

Brody's face in this one just makes me laugh. If you click on it you can see it better. I don't know if he likes Aunt Shannon taking his picture!
Now we're going to hold hands....
Brody has an obsession with teeth. This is Brody showing Aunt Shannon where Mommy's teeth are...
I got this next picture off my sister's camera. I just love this picture of Shannon and Brendan so I thought I'd post it. He's such a cute little guy and I have such beautiful sisters!
The last night Shannon was here we went out to eat with our friend from a long time ago (I can't say Old, that would be rude!) hehe. He served his mission in my parent's ward when I was 7 years old. He taught and baptised my older sister Kim. We hadn't seen Brent in probably 15 years, so it was so much fun to see him. He was in town for a convention and thanks to modern technology we've been able to keep in touch with him and his family. We had such a fun night and it's fun to see how some things never change even in 15 years (he laughed at a phone message I left him saying I talk just as fast as I did when I was 7....I thought that was funny). Brody stayed at home with Grandma, but Brendan braved the cold and came with us. This is a picture of all of us.....
Brendan, me, and Brent
Shannon and Brent
It was so fun seeing you Brent! Hopefully it's not another 15 years before we see you again :) Well, sorry for the long post. Apparently, I had a lot to write about!

The Musick Half Marathon

Registration Fee= Zero ; Other runners= Zero; Scenery= Zero; Having your family cheer you on for 13.1 miles= Priceless :)

So, this is a post more for me than anyone else because I'm very excited to say that I ran my first half-marathon over Thanksgiving. I was originally intending on running the Rose Bowl Half-Marathon in December, but due to an upcoming Christmas season and the $100 registration fee for that event, I decided to have my own. My sweet family members were so supportive and cheered me on the whole way. We mapped out the whole course thanks to Google Maps and the Odometers in our cars. Different family members would stand at stations along the way with cheers and water. My parents even had some members of their Ward that I was running by to come out of their house to cheer me on. I normally would've been embarassed but it was about my 10th mile and the encouragement was very welcome :) I actually thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope to get to do another one sometime soon. I ran the whole thing and finished in 2 hours 28 minutes. Again, not a world record pace, but I was happy to just have finished. I've never run 13 miles before, so I'm just happy to say that I accomplished that goal that I had set for myself. Thank you to my family for being such big supports of me and taking time out of your holiday to drive around cheering me on :) I love you all!!

This is a pre-race picture of the 3 of us. Brody actually fell asleep during my run, so he was just there at the start and the finish, but that was okay because it made it so worth it to see him again at the end!
Okay, sorry about the running pictures, but I just want to record for myself that I was running this whole time!
Still running...at least the weather was perfect. It was about 50 degrees and I loved it! The lower altitude was nice also :)

I just think this picture is funny. I ran so far I found a Wal-Mart! haha

Rounding the corner for my last mile....at least I look like I'm enjoying myself but the last mile was brutal!
Okay now these are my absolute favorite pictures of the day. I apologize again for the grainy nature of the pictures my camera seems to be taking lately. This was as I was coming down the home stretch almost to the finish line. Who wouldn't want to finish a race when you have this looking at you.....At this point he doesn't know what he's clapping for, but he's just clapping because everyone else was.
Then he realized it was Mom and decided he wanted to come get Mommy!
As he got closer, however, he decided I would have no other reason to be running then to chase him, so he started running away....
But I caught him!!! Yeah for the end! :)
This was my little cheering section. Not the best picture, I know, but the one where they were actually all looking at me turned out super blurry and I was too tired to stand there for 10 minutes taking pictures. I love that they had 3 cars with them going in various directions. You guys crack me up!
Brody is running away again....this time it was someone else's turn to catch him though :) hehe

Family Picture Time

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We have been in Texas all week with my family. We had tons of fun :) I have a couple of other posts to do, but for now I just have time for one. One day we took family pictures since we haven't all been together since the boys were blessed. These were a few of my favorites:
Jared and I
Brody getting kisses
The 3 of us...Brody was in quite a mood that day so we took quite a few pictures and just a couple turned out. That's just how it is with a little guy I guess :)
My whole family. This was my favorite one even though Lamar's eyes are closed!
Me with my sisters Ashley and Shannon
The girls with my momma
The whole family again inside

Make a Wish Foundation 5K....and a picture of Brody

This is a picture I took of Brody yesterday after Church. It was taken with my phone, so it's not the best quality, but I think he looks handsome anyway :) Jared, Brody, and I drove down to my parent's house in Texas on Friday night. We got in about 3:30 in the morning but it was a pretty good trip. Brody didn't sleep nearly as much as he was supposed to, but it was okay. The next morning was a 5K race for Make a Wish Foundation that my family was involved in. For those of you that don't know, my family has been granted two wishes from this wonderful foundation: one in 1995 and the other this year. The one in 1995 was for my sister Ashley when she had cancer. The one this year (you probably read about it in a previous post) was for my niece Kaylee (who my parents have guardianship of) who has congenital heart defects that are life-threatening. So, we have been greatly blessed by this foundation and wanted to give back. My Mom, Dad, Kaylee, and Cheyenne all walked the one mile fun walk and I ran the 5K. We raised some money and helped the North Texas Chapter grant more wishes for other families in this area.
Just a quick note on Make A Wish Foundation. There was a group there that was called "Caitlyn's Team". Caitlyn was 4, and at the end of August they found out she had an inoperable brain tumor that was wrapped around her spine. The Dr. called the Make A Wish Foundation and told them they were in need of a "rush" wish. By September 5th they were at Disneyworld in Florida. This little girl (and her older sister who is 7) got to spend a week doing what we did: forgetting about sickness, possible death, etc. and just be a little kid. Her Dad got up and said that was the most fun his daughter had ever had. On October 2nd Caitlyn passed away, just a month before her 5th birthday. So in this short period of time that her family had left with her they were able to have a bonding experience as a family that they will never forget because of this wonderful foundation. We are so grateful to still have the members of our family that were (and are) faced with illness, but I know there are many families that can't say that. So I guess it was just an emotional day for us to reflect on the experiences we've had as a family because of Make a Wish and be grateful for the blessings that we have to all still be here together. If you ever are inclined to donate to a great cause, that's one that I'm a big believer in. Okay, that's enough of my soapbox for the day on that, I just felt like I couldn't write this post without mentioning that. On to our pictures. (you can click on any of them to make them bigger...I finally figured out how to do that!)

This picture is misleading. If you are wondering why everyone is huddling the wrong way at the finish line, it's because the finish line doubled as the start line :) I just think it makes the picture look funny. I'm in there somewhere. Actually under the S, but you'd need a magnifying glass to see it, so you probably shouldn't try :)
This is of me as I'm almost to the finish line. I finished in 26 minutes which isn't great, but it was good for me. Seeing as last Thanksgiving when I ran the 5K Turkey Trot with Jared's family I finished in 38 minutes, it was definitely an improvement (granted I had just had a C-section 3 months before, so I wasn't exactly in peak physical shape). I'm just glad I beat the tall guy behind me. I was racing with him for quite a while.
This is my Dad, Cheyenne, Kaylee, and my Mom as they are almost to the finish line. Way to go guys!! I think my mom was pulling Kaylee by this point, but she finished! Way to go Kaylee! :)
This was actually before the race started. You can't really tell, but it was extremely cold outside. I know, you'd think Texas wouldn't be too bad, but I think it was only 32 degrees right then.
There was also face painting. Cheyenne wanted to be a wolf (her favorite animal right now) and I think the lady did a great job. When we got home Brody just stared at her! It was too funny. Kaylee was a princess. They are both holding the balloons they had made. It was so much fun!
Oh, this picture is out of order, but it's pretty funny. My Dad apparently thought he was going to die on the walk.
haha Kaylee thought he was funny!
