Little Fish

I know I've mentioned before how much Brody truly loves the water. The last few times we've taken him swimming he's decided he wants to take off on his own. He obviously can't swim by himself, but with the help of his life jacket he gets around pretty good! His little legs are hilarious because they get moving so fast. I don't know if you'll be able to see in this video, but they really are funny! Today he "swam" from one end of the pool to the other without us helping him at all. Obviously we stay right next to him constantly for safety sake, but we just think it's funny that Mr. Independent doesn't want help anymore. If it were possible to swim with just your legs I think he'd be all set!

Brody's Birthday and Baby Brother

Well, we've had a big weekend and already a busy morning! Brody's taking a nap, so I thought I'd post his birthday pictures for our family that wasn't able to be here with us :) First of all, though, Brody had his 2 year well baby check up this morning and I also had my 28 week appt.

Brody-- 90% height (36 inches), 30% weight (26 lbs) (when you see this first picture at toys r us you will see how long our little bean has gotten! We usually hide his skinny legs under big shorts, but the cart gave him away!) He is right on track with all of his developmental things and such a tropper at the Dr. He had two shots today and in true Brody fashion didn't make a peep. He hasn't cried at a shot since he was about 3 months old. He either has a really high pain tolerance or is just confused by the whole thing! He was a very good boy :)

Baby brother (and Mom)-- I passed my diabetes test this time! Woohoo! I was so excited. I had gestational diabetes with Brody, but I often wondered if I had been misdiagnosed because the test was very different from ones I'd had previously. I still don't know if I was or not, but this increases my curiosity because usually once you've had gestational diabetes once you continue to have it in subsequent pregnancies. Anyway, I was very happy! Baby is 2 1/2 lbs. and measuring right on target for his dates. He already has hair!! He must be taking after Jared again because I was bald until I was about 3. Baby brother also has a tentative birthday! Since I have to have another C-section (I've been told by 3 specialists during this pregnancy to absolutely NOT try a VBAC because of my history and abnormal uterus) we scheduled baby's delivery today. Depending on the hospitals schedule baby's birthday will either by November 5th or November 6th. My first choice is the 5th because that was my Grandpa and Grandma's Anniversary, but I'll take either one. However, that does scare me slightly because that means I only have slightly less than 2 1/2 months instead of 3. It just sounds a lot shorter! We really need to get this kiddo named! So, baby looked very good. He had his little hand up under his chin while we were looking at him today like he was thinking really hard. It was very cute! Okay, now on to Brody's birthday pictures....

At Toys R Us they have a free birthday club. You go in on your birthday (or in Brody's case the day before because his birthday was on a Sunday) and you get a free balloon and crown. They also make an announcement over the loud speaker that they have a special guest today and his name is Brody and he's 2! He wore the crown the whole time and loved having everyone tell him Happy Birthday!

We didn't get anything while we were there (sorry Toys R Us your ploy to get us there so we'd buy stuff didn't work) as I'd already bought Brody's presents. However, he did have fun playing with toys and he especially liked playing Rock Band with Dad!
Last year for Brody's birthday I made a cake and he didn't particularly like the idea. A few weeks ago he had a cupcake and actually ate it (he's not typically a huge sweets fan) so I thought this year I'd make cupcakes instead of cake. Brody helped me the night before make his cupcakes, but they were still in the oven when he went to bed. So his birthday morning when he woke up, the first thing he asked for was "Happy Birthday Cupcakes!" He had to go see if they were still in the oven, which of course they weren't still. He then spotted them on the counter and said, "Mommy, Look at that! Happy Birthday cupcakes all done!" We didn't eat any until after Church, though. At Church his sweet nursery leader made his the cutest little birthday crown to wear. He also got a sticker and some licorice from his leader. He wore the hat the whole time and insisted on wearing it to open most his presents. He's a funny boy! These are his cupcakes. Oh, and Brody's other favorite thing right now are smiley faces. He asks us to draw them every time it's time to color and he loves smiley face stickers (thanks Erik!). So, I made a special smiley face one just for Brody... (the candle is the nose)
This is Brody opening presents. I really shouldn't have been surprised, but I kind of was. He was so meticulous about opening these silly things. He wouldn't just rip the paper, and it was definitely a process!
Mommy and Brody on his birthday. Jared and I both think Brody actually sort of looks like me in this picture. Weird.... (notice his little cars all lined up)
This is my favorite picture of the day. He just looks so handsome!
This is Brody singing Happy Birthday to himself. He sang it probably 10 times yesterday. So cute!

Okay, now this video is hilarious. Aunt B is going to like it! Just make sure your volume isn't all the way up. Okay, those of you that know Brody know that he is a very happy boy the majority of the time. He really never gets upset unless he's hungry or tired. Well, on his birthday, we'll add having weird textures in his mouth to the list of things that REALLY upset him. When he went to take a bite of his cupcake he unfortunately got all frostine and no cupcake. Needless to say he freaked out. After a drink and a napkin he felt much better about his cupcake and ate the rest of it! Jared just helped him get mostly cupcake and a little frosting on each bite and he was fine. We love you and all your little quirks Brody boy. Happy Birthday!

Just a few Brody-isms

This week as I've been thinking about Brody turning 2, I thought I should write down some of the funny things that he says and does. This is probably mostly for me since I use this as my scrapbook, but hopefully you'll get a laugh or two out of them also.

1. One of my favorite things Brody has been doing lately is saying his own prayers. I love to hear what he comes up with at night to thank Heavenly Father for. Obviously he can't do the whole prayer by himself but he does a pretty good job! He usually says, "Heavenly Father, thank you for this day, thank you for......" Then he goes into the things he's thankful for. Most the time it's Mom, Dad, members of our extended family (we're still working on getting the baby brother thing!), and then whichever toys he wants to say thank you for. Most the time it's cars or his puppies he sleeps with. Tonight, however, he made Jared and I both laugh out loud during his prayer. He said thank you for mom, dad, and then noticed some Coco Puffs (which we don't usually have, but since we've had company we let Brody stir in 10 or so into his bowl of kix). He pulled the little bowl over in front of him and thanked Heavenly Father for his "Coco Cuffs". Can you tell the poor kid doesn't get much sugar?

2. Brody says 3 or 4 words sentences pretty regularly. He loves to look outside when we're driving in the car and he doesn't stop talking much when we're driving around. He'll say things like, "Mommy, I see balloons" or "Mommy, a tractor right there..see!" We love seeing what he picks out. He has an eagle eye lately for things like helicoptors, motorcycles, American flags, fields, the ocean, school and city busses, Papi's truck (any white truck), and Mickey's car (any white van).

3. Brody loves to wrestle and be tickled. He also likes to hit us with pillows. However, recently he's become very polite and tells us "glasses off" before he proceeds to hit us with pillows!

4. Brody loves to sing. He sings songs to himself all the time. He loves the Hot diggety dog song off of Mickey Mouse Playhouse. The only song he'll let us sing to him at night when in his bed is "I love to see the temple". If you sing another one, he still makes you sing the "temple song". I've also been teaching him how to spell B-R-O-D-Y by plugging it into the B-I-N-G-O song. He walks around singing that one quite a bit! His other favorites we hear from time to time are the missionary song (see video below) and happy birthday.

5. Brody has become very polite by saying "excuse me". He uses this in the right form when he has a bodily function, when he wants you to move, or when he's trying to interrupt (we're still working on this one, but he's getting much better at it!)

6. Brody has a bizarre obsession with "The Bee Movie". I don't know what it is about that movie, but he loves it! (that and Cars are his two favorites) He often tells us "Thinking Bee, Thinking bee" and "Black and Yellow, Hello!"

7. He comes out with words often that we had no idea he knew. One of my favorites (that I probably shouldn't promote, but it's too stinking funny!) is "Oh Gosh..." Apparently I say this a lot and he now repeats this in appropriate situations. This last week when we were at Jared's Grandparents house he went in their bathroom and looked at the wall. They have a very nice marble looking shower area with brown swirls in the design. He points at it and says, "Ew, disgusting". I had no clue he knew disgusting and I just about died laughing!

8. Another of my favorite words Brody says is snuggle. Except it's "nuggle, nuggle, nuggle". I want to put it in a tape recorder and keep it forever! He usually does this while giving us hugs and patting us on the back.

9. Brody also likes to pretend he's talking on the phone. He picks up our phones, says, "Hellooo" (with the lls as a y) and jabbers away like he has something very important to say. Most recently he answers every question we ask with a very deep "yeah" and so he says this a lot on the phone like someone is asking him very important questions!

10. Something else we find rather funny is what Brody asks for first thing when he wakes up in the morning. Most the time it's mommy or daddy, but sometimes he comes out with an "applesauce" or most recently "play cars". I'm beginning to think he must dream about his cars!

Well, I hope you enjoyed getting to know my Brody boy a little better. He really is hilarious and has such a funny little personality. I know this post will be enjoyed mostly by our family members, so I added a video. It's pretty long, but the second half is pretty cute. This is Brody singing the missionary song. You have to listen carefully as I tend to forget I need to be quieter when trying to record Brody. Enjoy!

Trip up North

Brody and I took a quick trip up North this past week. We stopped in Bakersfield and got to see Aunt B and Uncle Jordan for a night. Bethany had these little Harry Potter glasses and wand and so we dressed Brody up. He kept them on really well and loved going "ching" (like a sword) with the wand! I thought these pictures were too funny....

After our short stop in Bakersfield we headed up to Sacramento. Brody hadn't been to see Jared's sister Kelsey and his cousins Erik and Brock in Sacramento since he was little. So, we stayed at their house for a few days and had lots of fun! I didn't take any pictures though. I kept thinking I'd have more time and then I ran out of time and ended up with no pictures. I'm terrible! We loved spending time with them and Brody really enjoyed playing with his cousins :) We then went up to Jared's Gramma and Papa's house. Brody loved the deer at their house. He'd go running outside and just watch them and talk to them. He thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Gramma and Papa better!
2 deer probably trying to figure out Brody as much as he's trying to figure them out!
For the boy's 2nd birthday, Gramma has a tradition that she likes to take them to Build a Bear to build their own bear. It was so cute to watch Brody get so excited and he loves his Panda Bear! (named Hi-Ya after Kung Fu Panda) This is Brody following Gramma holding his Panda. When she initially asked him if he wanted to take the Panda home he tried to run out of the store with just the outside without the stuffing!
The girl had Brody do several things like jump up and down 3 times and spin around in 2 circles. Brody did everything just like he was supposed to and it was so cute! Another thing they had to do was pick out a little heart for the bear. Now, I think I've mentioned on my blog before that Brody tends to be very particular. Apparently this goes for little things like hearts for Pandas. I don't know if you can tell in the picture, but there are two kinds: plaid and solid red. Well, Brody dug through the box to find a solid one. Who would've though he'd care? He's a funny boy!
After Hi-Ya was stuffed they went to the computers and gave it a name and a birth certificate. Brody then stuck it in a car and drove it around (of course!) He loves his Hi-Ya!
Thank you Gramma and Papa for such a fun birthday treat for Brody!
Another reason I went to Sacramento was a little mini reunion with some of my best friends from college. Several weren't able to make it or live too far away, but I was able to see my friends Kaylene and Britni. It was supposed to be a 2-day reunion full of fun, but unfortunately Brody and I both got sick and had to head home early. We did get to spend a few hours together, though, and it was so nice to see them. I've missed them a ton! We all have kiddos the same age so they had fun together also :) I'm excited to see them all grow up! Brody, Carter (Kaylene's little one), and Kennedy and Bailey (Britni's little twin girls). They were all darling!
Hopefully we all get to see each other again soon! Thanks for a great time :)

What We've Been Up to...

The last few weeks have been crazy as always! We've been spending quite a bit of time in the pool. Brody has become a little too brave for my liking, so we have to keep a very close eye on him. This past week he decided he wanted to jump off the diving board like his cousins. Thankfully Ashley was watching him every step of the way and caught him when he jumped. (We really didn't think he actually would! He walked out to the end of the board, said 1-2-3 jump! and jumped off....oh boy!) He's also been watching Jared and Cheyenne swim with goggles so he thought you have to have goggles to swim.
A few weeks ago we took a quick weekend trip to Las Vegas to see my sister Shannon perform. Brody had lots of fun playing with his cousin Brendan. This is a picture of them all coloring together. Notice the size difference between Brody and Brendan. Brendan is a week younger than Brody and is possibly the biggest kid I've ever seen. I love it!
Chey, Brody, Brendan
Shan and I at her performance. I know you can't tell, but Shannon straightened her hair and she looks a lot like Ashley. It's creepy!

For the last 10 days my brother Bill and his family have been visiting. It has been so much fun as we haven't been able to spend much time with them over the years. Bill just recently retired from the Navy so he has a little extra time now. They are putting their house on the market when they get home and are hopefully going to be moving to Orange County. We'll have some more family here! Yeah! It was a very big day for his family as well as our larger family. He and his wife, Colleen, went through the temple for the first time and were sealed to their kids who are 12, 10, and 5. It was a very special day and I'm glad we were all able to be a part of it!

Our side of the family
Last week we spent a day going to the San Diego Zoo. We again had some free passes so off we went! It was extremely hot so we didn't stay for too long, but here are some pictures from the zoo....
Not a great picture, but it's the only one of all of us. Brody LOVED the panda bears and kept saying "Kung Fu, Hi Yah!"
While Bill and Colleen were here they got Brody a cute little Cars sleeping bag, pillow, and storage case for his cars. They were amazed at his love of cars! He loves his new pillow and sleeping bag!
Brody loved having soem of his cousins here to play. The boys were so sweet to Brody! Catherine wanted to take Brody home with her :) She said I'd be okay because I was going to have another baby pretty soon. haha This is Andrew and Brody
Spencer and Brody
Catherine and Brody were best friends!
Lastly, here's a few videos. We got a kick out of the things Brody was copying from the big kids. Most notable is Catherine's ballet and Spencer's worm impression. Catherine taught Brody to "walk, walk, arabesque!" He now says that over and over whenever he sees anyone doing ballet and thinks it's pretty funny! Thankfully the boys were there to show him the worm also! :) They are a little long, but pretty funny!

Legoland

Last week Jared, Brody, and I got to go to Legoland with my mom, Kaylee, and Cheyenne. After Kaylee's wish trip last year we got a little passport thing to get free tickets at participating amusement parks for a year after her trip. Since Legoland was a participating park, we all go to go FOR FREE! I must say, I truly feel blessed for being able to do these fun things even though we are unemployed. None of us had ever been to Legoland before and we all had a great day! Brody was a little young for some of the things there, but he actually met the height requirement for most of the rides. If you click on some of these pictures you can see the different things made out of Legos. It was amazing!

This is when we got there. Can you tell he's been cutting his two year molars??
This one's out of order but this is Mount Rushmore made out of Legos. It really was neat how they did everything. We thought this one was funny because they are cleaning out his ear with a Q-tip (also made out of Legos of course!)
This is all of us when we got there. These were the park's pictures that I had to scan in, so they're a little grainy, but it's the only one we have of all of us!
Yay! Finally, we got Brody's finger out of his mouth!
Jared, Brody, and I in front of some Fireman legos. This was at the beginning and Brody still wasn't sure what we were doing!

This picture cracks me up....Jared and Brody in the lego house
Talking with a little lego man
Again, this picture cracks me up. Brody's ability to pose and smile on command is pretty funny!

A Volvo made of Legos
Brody was a good sport and wore his hat most the day. Jared liked to mess with him though and Brody continued to smile for Mom!
Daddy and Brody in front of New York

Staring at Bob the Builder
These next few pictures are just a few of the many faces of Brody when he's exploring. They are very curious and also very serious!

We ended the day with a Helicopter ride with Daddy....Hopefully we'll get to go back again soon!
